Changes On Publication

This entry is where I have shown my gradual changes in creating my publication and showing the process in my deliberations with this part of the project. Where it shows my journey with how I came to my 3 publications and their outcomes... a lot of it is visually self explanatory but will still talk about it.  A lot of the changes case about from changing typefaces, the design aesthetic and if my layouts should be light or darkened etc. All will be revealed.

Contents Page

This contents page aesthetic, is more exciting and it is also simplistic and less busy than the prevues contents page and yes I realise I spent content page wrong practically throughout this project... but on the variation I printed I didn't spell contents page wrong.

To conquer my old I added another 4 pages as I like numbers that end in "0" or "5" for some reason  and I forgot to add the index page conclusion and the bibliography anyhow.

Grid Layout of introductory pages

I designed this aesthetic In contrast with Monochrome imagery with a vintage illustration on the side for the reason of simplicity but without making the page look  dull, overly busy and over powering.

I wrote about this piece on the righthand side...

What I said about how I have emphasised the & I did that because in the paragraph of text contained  a lot of ands/ampersands so I decided place one large ampersand in the spread for typographic excitement and tomato it look aesthetically pleasing, bit I did write I didn't like the image on the end, the spread doesn't need the image there I only put it there to see what it looks like with an image.
I wrote about this piece on the righthand side...
Where I said I just took out the image where it was unnecessary to add.

Page layout on Grid

This here is an experimental layout but I didn't like the aesthetic, so I didn't go with this layout,
it looked too busy for the wrong reasons and I don't like the text being everywhere for no explicit reasoning.

With this layout as the image didn't work on the spread with the & I added an image on the next page I tried experimenting on what side looked better as a spread I liked the version on the left with the & on the left-hand-side. It works better and I like how the poppy badges follow on with the two black lines below the &.

Fandom Page spread

High and Low opacity repetitive imagery, like the imagery on the face Website.

This aesthetic very much reminds me of the VOUGE magazine design aesthetic, here is the Vouge website: https://www.vogue.co.uk

Here is some Vogue Magazine Layout design

Layout With Baseline Grid

First Stage of Inventions Spread

Invention Layout

The inspiration for this type of layout is to do with the Swiss style art, with the asymmetric aesthetic along with the colour scheme and with the colour scheme is all inspired by this kind of imagery below.

I had feedback from Liam about trying to make the 24 black and o tried it by responding to feedback but I didn't particularly like the idea, but I don't like the blacked 24, because it isn't a strong  aesthetic and it contradicts the red B.

Russian Constructivism

This page layout is in the similar aesthetic with the Swiss style asymmetric imagery with
the same colour choices as the imagery on the inventions spread and followed the same aesthetics.

This here is the spread about badges representing the theme of memory and with this spread I have kept it simplistic but let the text flow in a more excitable way than just a block of text.

Spread has colour!

Developing stages for this spread

Tracey Emin & Sarah Lucas spread in developing variations where I looked at different aesthetics and can see how I have developed this variation.

Developing stages experimenting with opacity

With this spread it is a vast improvement, but I now think I that the Pharaoh image doesn't need to go on this spread, it is a but much and makes the spread look too busy and there needs negative space where he's sitting.

Grid version and spread without grid

Latch Spread with Grid

The Latch spread, went from the vintage aesthetic to the bold, bright and abstract simplistic variation to which I like the transformation I felt that the backdrop on the image on the left with the image I didn't think worked and weakened the aesthetic of the design so I decided to go for the abstract aesthetic instead with the red and black Swiss stylistic choice to keep the spread simplistic but pleasing to capture the attention of the readers.

Ancestry Medals spread showed on the Grid

With this layout, I used imagery from the photoshoot of my great great grandad's medals and my other great grandad's pin badge and both Grandad's badges for their personal accomplishments. I decided to incorporate my rubbings I did of the medals also and experimented with the opacity of the imagery on the spread.

Index Page

With this Layout I have kept simplistic by keeping the layout in a symmetrical layout, With this layout, I had to figure out how to create an index page on Indesign, where I had a clip sent by Anne about Making a index page: here is the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMnEdgHTgag&t=1003s with the video I was confused with the options with the topic and the reference button as the topic one is a list about each subject as an organised way of layout design where as the reference button actually generates the Index Page.

Conclusion page

With this page I kept it simplistic and just used a concept photo I took of my badges displayed in a different way (On a board with strings on it) and I then lowered the opacity so the image works for a background for the conclusion.

Bibliography

I went with the same kind of aesthetic for the bibliography as the conclusion apart from the background image being of a rubbing I did of great grandad's medals and with a vintage filtration and low opacity with the references I found for my essay. This wasn't a compulsory thing but I wanted the numbers to be 40 pages rather than 38.

Back Cover

With this back cover,  I used a low opacity image of my great granddads medals and his history and I  also kept the text simplistic but made the F enlarged so the text can follow along and be right aligned to be inlign with the bottom half of the F and I also liked how I used negative space and with the QR Code, I couldn't believe it actually worked!! It made me wish I put in a barcode also.
