Evaluation for the Editorial Project

The century consists of my evaluation for the editorial  project that basically sums up my views of the Entire journey of the project.

 Here are the questions I asked for selfies below to help me write up the evaluation

 

For this project I covers the theme of anthology and as you know by looking through this blog I’ve chosen to do my project based on my badge collection. From Reading aspects on my essay I have collected by ages since I was a child through various different things reasoning whether a B for accomplishment for label and identification or full of finding more even employment and education and much more I very much focus on the theme of memory when it come to this project as badges to me are nostalgic object to have where you get a badge for a milestone or for doing something that you’re proud of and you get a badger like a token of something great that you know you’ve done a memory and For I found that exciting As I think the mind psychologically is an interesting thing on its own and the fact that your brain can remember events and triggers from an object or from a photo I think it’s just extraordinary how when you remember something you need to remember it 

is long-term or short-term memory which short term memory is when you remember something back from yesterday a long term memory is when you remember something that happened years ago and I think badges are a good token of representing both concept of memory. I’ve also looked at different other things that fatties can be for such as sexuality race war celebrations Scouse and even promotional things and even in shop windows I see a logo as a badge as well because when you see yellow there is a football for instance as I said in the essay are you see a football logo like Liverpool or Arsenal that’s a badge to represent their team so badges can also represent a community or team of some kind can can also be good for business revenue as well.   As you are typical look loyal hoarder I am a big fan of hoarding and collecting things I’ve always collected things since I was little from hot wheels cars to go guys crazy bones to Pokémon characters and even now from make up to perfume to key rings and almost everything I own I correct in the most simplistic way of putting it and I really struggled to begin With as to what focus I was going to bassist project on because there’s so much I collect and my top three was the badges tickets from different events which I thought was quite exciting because I could do a lot of things at them lots of layering in overlaying and different things like that as well and I also had the idea of collecting rubbish because I thought it be a different one to go for as you know people have the knickknacks and what about Andy Warhol with his collection of being cancelled he had when he was ill and that was all we ate and is in hospital he ended up with a collection of mate bean cans so I liked the idea to but the reason I picked by Jesus as I say a much more personal deeper level as to why I picked them badges have been a part of me through the majority of my life growing up.

I can’t lie I really enjoyed this project because it’s very different and I enjoyed learning the different processes as it was completely out of my coat that’s own to design a website or app of my own and I enjoy them discovering new skills and ways I can create thing and that I don’t have to just be the same old same old every time I can mix it up a bit and push my limits as a graphic designer and challenge my own work as well I am a I as much as I have enjoyed this project this project has been very long winded And a challenging one for me to accomplish and to complete as it was as I say something I never done before making a website so I didn’t really know what to expect and my confidence wasn’t very high about this project to begin with but now I am near the end of it I can admit I have enjoyed this project and I have been enjoyed the journey with this one even though it has been long I have seen myself grow up more Is not just as a graphic designer but as a person as well as it has tested me quite a bit and I have been pushed out of my comfort zone which I like and I love a challenge so I am happy about the fact that I’ve been  thrown into the deepend. The things that I thought went well with this project was the outcomes I come up with with mine put it the experimentation I took with this work I also enjoyed and think went well was interviewing different people in voice recording way as well as taking surveys and questionnaires which brought me some nostalgia from doing voice recording and presenting as in the secondary school I did unit radio which was basically doing Local improvisation where it can be interviews it can become of the skies the limit but I bought all those skills together to do there interviewing.

 I also think the techniques and processes I’ve learnt along the way went well because they’re very different and it’s been enjoyable No you also think in the end even though it took a long time the outcome of my website I thought was good for a first timer as I’ve never done the website for myself or for anyone in that matter so to actually make a website and see the journey and making it was really insightful and exciting to get a he stuck into something new I encouraged a lot of interaction with the website as well as designing the memory game I think went well in the end it did take awhile for me to actually figure out how to do this process as it was the challenge until I found the right website in the right resources to help me design the game and I think I managed to research some of the artists in different areas of editorial processes from printing to designs I’m designing websites to various magazines and books et cetera et cetera and other artists work that they’ve done in various different ways I also found this challenging with the publication with making sure I got every detail the way I wanted it but in a more stylistically exciting mannerism Which I think went well as well and then I am in joyed the whole process really I saw this project project as a rollercoaster there’s been many ups and there has been many downs with this project which I’ll explain later that he has built me as a character.  I also found the doing my trailer with the badging hell as the homepage on the website I think actually making it went really well to make it are used the Imovies to help me create The trailer which I enjoyed doing very much and it was fun to see it all develop and watch the dramatics in the trailer and it was very excitable to watch and to create.

I also felt the me actually making the enamel pins went well as well as it was completely out of my comfort zone and I watched a YouTube video as to how to make them which was quite a simple way for me to follow and understand and I really enjoyed making them and it was fun to create different badges based on art that I’ve created in the past.

I Felt in the end the design layout for the publication went well I think each page has their own little spark as to why they work well and the meaning of the layouts is there within the imagery and is told very well visually and communicates my message well about badge collecting. And despite it taking so long to get this right I have really enjoyed designing it as I say it has push me well out of my depth and pushing as a designer and as a person to see what I can create when I put my mind to it and not create the same thing every time.

The things that I felt didn’t go quite so well was some of my knowledge of typography is still fairly limiting and I’d like to develop this further but I think if I had more knowledge on the typography I feel it would’ve been much easier for me to know what sort of type faces are appropriate for whatever I’m designing in the future I also struggled with creating a baseline grade as I’m not the most articulate with the  Mathematics and I did struggle as I had many viewings on YouTube show me how to make one and it was very challenging I also found that knowing what a young audience likes from and in ages 5 to 10 would like was a challenge for me personally as I am a younger person in my family so knowing what children like was a bit challenging and I don’t know an awful lot about children as of yet and so that was a struggle for me to make sure whatever I created best suited the age certificate. I also found the my design I did on the Childs app was okay but it didn’t show my strongest work so I didn’t think that was such a high point for me personally people might think wrong or different because all is a subjective thing but I personally didn’t feel it was very strong and it was simplistically it’s children like and limiting on words but I didn’t contain video because I was using Adobe XD and it’s a Proto type program so it doesn’t contain the video element as of yet. I also found something that didn’t go so well with the timeline I made of my badge collection it was a great idea doing a time line of my bike to catch enjoying the history of it but what didn’t go so well was the fact that I’ve had to write some of the lettering in digital writing rather than typing it as the pdf file For the timeline missed out a couple letters and the lines weren’t fully done properly and that’s just a little thing but it did  annoyed me.   I also had a bit of feedback from my interactive presentation that I do agree with to some extent that I should’ve been a bit more caring about the animation are used with how much of it are used and whether it be too mad over the top for people to understand and get chance to read it or not and some of it was a bit too much in places and some of it works well so I’m a bit 50-50 on that but there was sections and now I felt may not of been necessary and some that were so actually being able to simmer it down a bit and condense  Amount of animation I felt if I done that it would’ve been much better and more of a flowing interactive publication.

My favourite part of the website I created I would say the homepage is well created with the flow of it and just the consistency in the simplicity of the design layout, I liked the trailer being on the homepage as like the hero of the website so you have to WhatsApp to find out what else is in store which I really liked I also liked the the memory game is on the homepage as well to engage people into playing the game and then after playing the game we think oh yeah that’s cool I’ll see what else is on the website source of thing and the fact that it’s in simplistic language and isn’t too complex so teenagers and young adults us would want to view it. Although I did like the interactivity of the website as well there was a lot of interaction on there in the end and there were things like I was writing instructions on how to do rubbings of badges and the colouring interaction I thought was a good idea because I wanted the website to be a mixture like a variety sort website website I wanted it to be entertaining educational an interesting and something for people to enjoy the same way as I enjoyed collecting and to maybe convince others who may not collect badges yet to start collecting and see what memories The badges convey to other peoples perspectives which I think is another exciting thing about badge collecting his hearing what veggies mean to other people in their perspectives as well as my own. 

As for my publication my favourite part of it I have to say because it’s a stylistic choice and the conceptual imagery I really like the Egyptian page on the final publication because I like the simplicity behind the layout design and I like how I’ve incorporated some Swiss style for graphic layout as well as keeping it simplistic but enough on there to make the page out look exciting. There was also a couple of other spreads or lights because of the colour choice and the layout because the layout was much more exciting and riveting I really liked the layouts with the red black-and-white because it joke goes to show that you need free colours on their page to make it look exciting and I found that for filling to create imagery with a paint palette I’m taking the consistency with it. I also liked the page and I elsewhere I’ve got the repetitive imagery Going across the page with the types of being written either on top of that or below it and I just think aesthetically look it looks exciting and pleasing for Captivate in the eye of the audiences who want to collect badges or who have an interest in history or even just the general interest in badge collecting And those who like to read a book generally speaking. I Feel that despite how long it took me to create the publication it was a successful work of  Experience in the full editorial processes. I had a lot of enjoyment creating this publication more than I thought I would in the war sensor I enjoyed the journey of creating it I enjoyed making the mistakes and getting told this isn’t right or this isn’t quiet works well and I enjoyed seeing the feedback was that people thought of my layout design as well.

As for improvements go I would say for my website I have read on some peoples reviews and some people said where they seen it on the mobile version because there is three different versions in seeing the website on which is a computer version the iPad version and the mobile version and on the mobile version not all of the content fits in to the phone screen unfortunately which is something which I didn’t know about originally and now I see it as a learning curve  I for when I create a website again in the foreseeable future.  For my publication I would say there is a vast improvements I could make looking back at it like I could win more Farah with my spelling check and making sure I had everything spelt right and making sure everything is grammatically correct I also think there were elements suggested by and which I’ve recently just learned that some of my images look stretched in some of my publication alliance and what she said and it’s something I’ve got to Jess in the future is to not forget to press shift when I’m enlarging or shrinking an image otherwise the image stretches out and pick slates which means the orientation of the image is out of whack and the quality isn’t as great and where it’s been stretched and pool all about that it doesn’t look as aesthetically pleasing to look at in a sophisticated mannerism.

I would definitely do this project again as I have enjoyed the journey despite it being long and if I did do it again I would probably use a different item of water collect because I don’t want to do the same thing every time so I’d probably pick a different thing that represents anthology meaning I probably would’ve picked tickets for another thing thing with this project which I would Also create work with and making a website what could been for seeing old fashion tickets and looking at the different ages of tickets whether it’s train tickets for a concert tickets just any type of ticket and I have enjoyed doing my project on badges but as I say if I did do this again I would have to pick a different thing I collect because as I say I collect almost everything I own because I’m a hoarder and I don’t really like to throw things away very much so I want a bit of variety if I did this project again or  Another project that similar to this one is probably pick a entirely different theme to create graphics for.

I admit this  Project had many setbacks for me as I said this was up from P rollercoaster ride for me as it put me through my debts and really challenged me Graphic designer and there is a person and still going through lockdown and Covid restrictions that was an added thing as to why this project was more challenging and there was points where I was losing motivation well where I didn’t think I finish this project in parts of me wanted to give up completely with this project with this one and like move onto the next project just to find something new to do which and to just have more freedom with the project. The main reason as to why this project was the challenge was because I had to deal with family things at home to do with personal Breavement of a loved one  Keep the moral high it was a challenge to do this project as Wellers keeping very positive energy, And In order to have completed this project I had to have an extension which that was for about three weeks also to get this work done and if I didn’t have that I would say I would probably have failed this project completely and really did mess up and it will be work that I wouldn’t of been happy with because it wasn’t wouldn’t of been my 100% Best effort and always believe that no matter what I do whether it’s good or not so good that if I put my hundred percent into it then I’ve done what I can do and I’ve not never really been a highflying student so Actually if I feel like I’ve done my best then that’s my best And I’m thankful that I had the extension period because I now feel like I have done my best that I can with this project and I thought I’ve completed it to my debts and I have learnt a lot about myself within this project space and it’s developed skills that I didn’t even know I had which is things like having more willpower and my stubbornness shows within my work  and realising I can’t always juggle everything on one plate.

I also had a slight setback regarding the printing because I wanted to get my hair done a couple days before deadline as opposed to the day before and with my pre-printed publication I thought it was going to come within the Monday and the Tuesday beforehand him but in actual fact it is meant to come the next day so on the Wednesday and it was a minor setback only because I was hoping to get it done quicker but I have had other setbacks in this project to where I went to see what a publishing was like on one of the websites are used and it turns out I’d have to pay £7 a month to have it published which I thought was a bit daft just For a website that I’m using for a uni project and it’s a bit dear for a student. Which then meant I had to restart my website completely more than just a one time and that’s just the journey and then I start the editorial process I guess that when it comes to design you can have so many restarts and mishaps and so many ideas that you’ve done and then had to restart in or change even that in actual fact that’s just the reality of editorial design at its purpose which I think is why it’s cool editorial because when you’re editing something you changing something and when you changing something I think you’re changing is of Evolving.

Anyway, to Conclude the evaluation and the projects as I say I have enjoyed it, defiantly challenged me and eventful.  it's been mixed bag of emotions, which is exciting and considering the fact that this projects take me 13 weeks today I’m looking forward to starting on the new project and to get new creative ideas flowing.
