Children's illustrators books

Children's illustrators books

This entry is covering examples for children’s illustrator books due to the reasons of struggling on finding children’s typography and because I couldn’t find a typeface that was suitable for designing my website so Anne suggested I look at the children's illustrative books to look at the aesthetic of childlike aesthetics along with the typography as I was struggling on what typeface would best suitable for children.

Ingrid Godon

Ingrid Godon

With Ingrods work her imagery is very simplistic and looks like hand drawn aesthetic, I could guess her motives for this is to show its a book suited for children as well as containing a lot of illustration and less of the words also with the titles text layout being simplistic and easy to read for children.

Axel Scheffler: Gruffalo

Axel Scheffler: Gruffalo

What I found exciting with this iconic book is seeing the editorial process and actually seeing how he got from A to B and how he created every detail and seeing it progress, I can see how this imagery is suitable for children is the Gruffalo Axel said originally the Gruffalo looked too scary for children so he had to keep doodling til he created the right aesthetic and make it more appropriate for children, which is why it took ages til he got to the front cover but the aesthetic does work for children as the fictional character doesn't look as intimidating and the typeface does match the storyline of the childs book.

Marika Maijala

With Marika Maijala's imagery it is very colourful, with simplistic drawings, shapes and the aesthetic of her work is aimed for children as I can tell by how the imagery is drawn and how the numbers on the greyhounds is drawn very simplistically and the colour co-ordination is in a more childlike look to it with the bold, bright colours.

Here is more imagery from Marika Maijala with examples of her imagery.
