The origin and History on Blue Peter Badges

The History behind Blue Peter Badge

The reason for this page of research is because I knew history of my badges as in how I got them but not known the legacy behind them and seeing as Blue Peter Badges are like MBE's for children, I wanted to discover more about the badge because I have two badges myself and thought it's about time I discover the history and origin behind the badge.

Blue Peter is a British Variety TV show on CBBC for children, that includes anything from Music, Challenges, talks on latest trends, Arts & crafts, cooking and much more.  Blue Peter was first made and aired 16th October 1958 and continues to work its magic to this day. Blue Peter is currently 63 Years old) (Jan 2021)

The iconic Blue Peter badge was launched and broadcasted on the TV screens on the 17th July 1963 Amazing ain’t it! That means, the original Blue Peter badge is currently 58 years old (Jan 2021) seeing as The blue Peter badge was being designed in 1952 by Tony Hart- Pictured on the right-hand-side... The badge was made on air 11 years after Blue Peter was first aired and Since that day, more badges have joined the Original Blue Peter Badge as it’s trusty sidekicks to join the one we know and see as the classic icon. Tony Hart has made a lifelong legacy that has continued to grow and grow. With newly added emblems with various ways to receive one, for the following:

Purple Badge:- For writing a Review of one of the Blue Peter Episodes using a sheet they provide to you. (Which I have)

Green Badge:- For doing something ECO friendly and environmental based. Such as sending them a letter about the environment.

Orange Badge:- For either winning competitions or for being the runner up of a competition.

Sports badge:- For children who take part in a new sport.

Music Badge: A new addition, Designed by Ed Sheeran! Yes that's right even Ed Sheehan designed a badge and said "I've always loved Blue Peter and even got the chance to present the show a while back, so I'm made up that I got to design their first ever badge for BBC Music Day. Music was really important to me growing up and I hope this badge will inspire more kids to get into it."   The badge was for viewers who show off their passion  for music by learning a new instrument or being part of a musical performance, the badge was officially launched on Thursday 26th September 2019. How cool is that!!

Diamond Badge: Was a limited edition badge to celebrate the 60’s Annerversary of Blue Peter in 2018.

Silver Badge: You can get this one for the same reasons as you can acheive a Original one but this one is for putting 100% into what you send to them.

Gold Badge: This badge is very rare, and is for doing great things such as saving someone’s life or doing  something for the community.

I also found out that, within the 55th year, that the badges were created, there had been over 1 Million Blue Peter badges awarded!!  Now that is astonishing!!

Sketches of the Blue Peter Badge

Here are some of his sketches of the Blue Peter Badge.

Here is where the Blue Peter Badge idea came from

As you read from my research the idea of the badge was inspired by his animation: Pirate Humpty Dumpty.

There you have it the Blue Peter badge... his design was worth £1000

This is where I found the Blue Peter Badge sketches from Tony Hart.

This article is where I found out the history behind the Blue Peter badge.

Some more facts I screenshooted on Tony Hart

Reason for that is because I wanted to learn more about this iconic success story after recently discovering the man behind the badge.

More screenshooted facts to get your teeth into.
I found this really interested and got me reading for five minuets...

More screenshoots

More facts I found on Blue Peter History, found on CBBC Website

The reason as to why I took screenshots of this information is for one to show where I am finding my key information and two is if I want to make my website and publication about learning about the history of badges it would be a bit of a hypocrite move if I hadn't found d out some facts and history behind the Blue Peter Badges myself considering I have two in my collection myself... plus I have always wondered who designed the badge in the first place.

Tony Hart was also known for designing the Classic clay stop motion animation... MORPH... which is an animation released in the 60's and what I love is how simplistic it is and looking back at my badges they remind me of the aesthetic of MORPH even in the material of the badge... which is almost like a plasticine aesthetic.

There is even a website just for MORPH...Here's the attachment below...

EVEN MORPH GETS A BADGE!!!
Absolutely wonderful!
