Art Work, Recordings and analysis of objects
Recordings and analysis of objects
This entry here is of my brainstorms of my badges and my drawings of my objects, this entry will demonstrate how I have recorded my chosen objects, (badges) though the processes of brainstorming, sketching, line drawings, experiments and using various techniques and processes to create basic artwork to record and analyse my collection, the majority of these drawings I produce are in a digitalised format mostly because it's easy access, and easier to do to place into a digital sketch book & it's an aesthetic I have grown to love and develop.
I recorded my collection this way, so I can start creating imagery of my chosen collection and to show visual ways of expressing my collection through the arts of visual communication and through the editorial process as The editorial work starts here. From the notes I take, the artwork I produce and what I change and develop with, these here you could call these the guinea pigs on the journey of this project.
Analysis of my badge collection
Yes I know... another brain storm... This brainstorm is about my badge collection itself where I took note on what badges I had and how many for things like birthdays, remembrance days employment etc. Along with covering colour groups with colour budget I have I've talked about my audiences what where are you briefly come heads my badges with my small batches to my big badges to the badges that are for teens and up and once the children I have I've looked at the badges are promotional such as Blue Peter or even the UCA badges as another example I also have badges that could be classed as nerdy badges as a stereotypical label but what I mean to say is there one to get in find them and basically but badges of character you like, which again could also mean promotional because it having it on a badge allows you to remember that character that you're a fan of the character or whatever is being displayed on the bade, I have also mentioned about materials for my badges this brainstorm basically covers the ins and outs of how I got my Badge collection and how I categorise them.
I did this brainstorm mostly because I wanted to write notes on my collection as well as having the drawings I need a station is off my badges are still having a little overview on how I'd personally group my collection would make sense to put above my drawings so you can see how a group for my badges and then you see what I've done my badges and how I've experimented further.
Drawings of collection
Line Drawing 1
Line Drawing of my full badge collection
With this line drawing it was based off a photo I took of the entirety of my collection and I wanted to do this line drawing first because it covered every bite your head from the beginning of the project and I wanted to have a visual representative of a line drawing on my collection the notes on them it's just a note on analytic wording based on what the sentiment is behind my badges and briefly tells you the story behind them as well as giving a audience for what my badges would aim for best.
Line Drawing 2
Line Drawing of my collection in another perspective layout
With this line drawing I drew it with a program called procreate and I drew this based on a different perspective of my collection that was photographed in a different way with some of the badges facing the the direction to see the design and some of them with the backs on them which is quite good, I think this because you can see the comparison between each side of the badge in different perspectives and seeing the backings of the badges (pins) was quite a good touch. because it give it a more obvious dynamic that this line drawing was of badges.
The difference between the First Line drawing and this drawing above, is has my badges congregated in a scattered fashion, whereas the first drawing is in a bit more of an orderly fashion in the collection. I felt arranging the second line drawing was more realistic for a budding badge collector, in how you'd typically see a badge collection in a box, all cluttered together with different shapes and sizes, placed at different directions. Even though this second line drawing may have the majority of my collection unseen in this piece, I like the normality of how the badge collection is arranged compared to the first drawing, with how differently these two line drawings display the badges with one looking very strict and strategic... following an orderly fashion, which I do like as if I was going to place my collection and arrange them with intention this is most likely how I'd display my collection and with this second drawing it demonstrates a very cluttered way of arranging the collection and it is less spread out and grouped differently. Not to mention that on the first drawing, with the red and green written notes on it, I wanted to be able to annotate my collection so I can identify and understand the motives of my badges.
Another difference is how it each drawing displays the collection, how I mean is that with is the First Line drawing is displayed in an intentional way and was deliberately put in the order it is. Where I've arranged my badges from height order and with the two numbers on the very top with the bigger number than before the smaller number so its like the collection is counting down as you go across the picture. With the first line drawing you can see the spread out of the badges is very thorough and to the point and you can see each and every badge with every little detail where is the diagram below if you can't see all of the badges you can only see certain badges as several customers in such a mannerism as I wanted to show various ways on how I display my collection.
Stage two of the second line drawing
This here is stage two from the second line drawing and for this I decided to colour in my badges as I wanted to see the colour coordination and how it will connect soon build up the image and it brings the image to life a bit more and I wanted to show stage of development where you can see different ages and different colours and you can see the different aesthetic's on the pattern of the badges of the design of the badge as well where are you can see more of the dynamic effects particularly in the 21 badge for example you can see with the colours bought that out from looking bland and overlooked.
I like that you can see the details much more and the colour gives the imagery more depth and clarity, even in the smaller badges... which congregate the piece together that it's not just the big 21 badge that jumps out at you, thats the icing on-top of the cake... the mini badges make the illustration look like a high quality collection. Adding the colour to this image is much more simple and obvious as to what is on the picture.
The reason why I coloured this one in and not the first line drawing was because I felt with the first one I just wanted to show simplicity behind the badges I wanted to show the congregation of badges and I felt like if I put colour on it it might of been too much I might of taken away the purpose of the line drawing whereas with this stage I wanted to develop my work a bit further by adding a bit of colour to my drawing to make it a similar aesthetic to my badge collection as clinically possible. With this image I am hoping to have this appear on a website to try and encourage people to post their artwork of their badge collection on the badge website as a form of interaction and keeping my audience engaged.
Line-drawing 3
With this sway over a range of my veg collection is much more clustered has less breathing space to move and less of the negative space this is because in this variation the badges are put away in my box I am normally put my badge collection in and my boxes in the biggest box for my badges and the reason why I did this line drawing was to show another perspective of my veg collection in a different way of displaying them as they're in a box the budgies are laid out in various ways and are mostly overlapping each other.
As I said before, the difference between the storing in the previous two line drawings above is the fact that this 3rd drawing is of the badges put away in a box and with the other drawings the badges are out of the box and displayed in different ways to what we have in the drawing.
I am thinking about potentially putting these line drawings up on a website and have them downloadable so people can colour in the badges and to try and encourage my audience to draw their badge collection and colour them in, to encourage the interactive elements to
my Website/App.
Line drawing 4
Greyscale, tonal drawing of my badges
This fourth line drawing is of my badges that I had out at the time when I was arranging this collection as I was looking at colour coordination at this point and the way I was categorising this was getting badges at the similar colours similar design aesthetic's and incorporating badges I'm making myself to this piece as well, the difference with this line drawing here is although there is no colour on this image as of yet the arrangement of the grouping is different because I've categorise them again specifically for when I had the colour to this piece with this piece alone I was storing these from a different perspective there are three drawings he saw above I was drawing from photos I took of my badge collection wet and the difference with this line drawing here is although there is no colour on this image as of yet the arrangement of the grouping is different because I've categorise them again specifically for when I had the colour to this piece with this piece alone I was drawing these from a different perspective to the three drawings above.
The mannerism behind this drawing is different to the three above as well because I was drawing the first 3 drawings from photographs I took of my badge collection and Jerry what was on the photo using chasing technique where I had the layout of my photo I took of my badges and I then drew all the details on the badges where as with this one I was during the badges freehand as I was starting to grasp the shaping of the badges in the design of them and I'll starting to understand how to draw the past and is more fluently so I challenge myself to draw these this time from picking up a badge and analysing the drawing and visually scrutinising the badges and drawing them in a more freehand aesthetic. For me is more meaningful as the fact that I'm picking up the badges I'm and drawing them from what I'm seeing and how I am interpreting what is on the badges as opposed to what's on the photos.
Here's a line Drawing of my Ariana Grande Badge
This is what the Ariana Grande Badges looked like when I draw her freehanded, in a badge... using Pro Create. This is what it looked like before I added colour to this line drawing.
Again if I were to use this drawing I would probably use it for my website and say download to colour in or to encourage audiences to draw and colour in their badges.
This is what the fourth line drawing look like when I coloured it in freehand admittedly you can see much more here where I've done the freehand elements where the badges aren't circular as such and not congruent around the entirety of the circles but considering I wasn't using a guide to draw the circles they were drawn decently. What I like about the fact that the badges are coloured in now is you can visually see what I was aiming for for the storing that I was trying to categorise this variation of my badge collection in colour coordination covering the C word in L.A.T.C.H (Categories) but not draw every single batch just draw ones that may have more colour more instructive aesthetic's just so you can visually understand and see the colour coordination behind the badges. If I were to put this piece up on the website or an app I would possibly use it to try and encourage my audience to draw some of their badges and put them up on the website/app.
This here is the freehand Badges drawn individually screens hotted, cropped and collaged together after colouring them in to see how the drawings look like individually and zoomed in.
Line Drawing 5
With this line during this time I traced my drawings from a photograph again of my badge collection in a much more scattered aesthetic than the second line drawing I did.
The reason as I say that because there is a much more investigative approach with this piece as to the second line drawing because the detail in the piece is much stronger you can see more of the typography it's more legible the picture stand out more on the detail of the badges and captivates the scattered aesthetic much more than the second line drawing, which this brings me onto my next point when I compare this line during to the very first line during what has the entirety of my collection or arranged specifically in a chronological order in height order and from the size of the badges as well whereas with this one is very scattered you do see a lot of the badges and the majority of the collection is in the storeroom but it is very scattered they are all overlapping and for me this is the most realistic of a budding badge collector is the badges are scattered everywhere there in a pile and they're all showing the detail of the badges the patterns of typography is legible.
I feel this piece this works very well for this and it just shows a very unique aesthetic to the very first line drawing I did because of how it's arranged and how I've drawn the badges as they both are equally detailed in the line drawing but the arrangement of the badges and the perspective of the image is completely different which I like because then you canI feel this piece does work very well for this and it just shows a very unique aesthetic to the very first line drawing I did because of how it's arranged and how I've drawn the badges as they both are equally detailed in the line drawing but the arrangement of the badges and the perspective of the image is completely different.
That is something about drawing 5 I like because you can see the badges in this piece this piece shows very scattered aesthetic but is displayed in a unique way in comparison to the very first line drawing I did because of how that collection is arranged. Due to how I have drawn the badges in varied positions, as they both are equally detailed... in the line drawings but the arrangement of the badges and the perspective of the image is completely different.
which I like because then you can see the badges grouped in varied ways and communicated in different ways as this piece suggests a big collection of badges, congregated together and with the first line drawing suggests the badges are in a chronologic order of arrangement and layout as well as saying I have a lot go badges in the collection you can count them in that piece where as this one you don't need to count them they're very together and the illustration already hints that there is a multiple badges in this collection, and as well as that the badges I've drawn on this during our binder the teenage audience and where is the other drawings are done you could potentially say is aimed at a universal an audience some of it could be aimed for children and adults and depending on who would look at them and like what they see and if it engages the viewers or not.
Another thing I will say is this aesthetic very much reminds me of Tom Gates way of illustrating his working teenagers books and considering the fact that I am looking at varied audiences to help me choose my audience I've looked at some of his examples of his illustrations and the aim to teenagers which this illustration is also aimed for teenagers and has a similar aesthetic to what I've drawn on my fifth line drawing above is an example of Tom Gates artwork below:
Look how similar the aesthetic is with his illustrative stylistic choice between my 5th line drawing and Tom Gate's illustrations is. Could this piece make me the next Tom Gates? Who Knows?
And this is it coloured in...
Don't it look much better coloured in…
I like the fact that this is all coloured in and that it then categorised in a different way so it's nice to see it in a unique aesthetic in like a doodle like aesthetic which does suggest is a lots of badges in the collection and the badges are in for a teenage audience and I feel like this piece would engage teenagers and encourage them to post photos of their badges on website/app depending on which one I make draw badges and maybe even start collecting them.
This one is probably my favourite drawing I done out of the five because it's very visually powerful it's engaging it kept your attention and makes you want to look more into the picture after seeing the foreground of the image you want to see different parts of the image and say it was one big picture I like the aesthetic of this piece I like the cartoon like feel to it even though it is what the badges look like it's destroying me I am variation and coloured them in my own interpretation of my badge collection scattered in a pile suggests that I collect multiple amount of badges in various shapes and sizes.
Paper-based Drawings/ Experiments
This here is some drawings I did of my badges that wasn't computerised I decided to include these into this entry because I wanted to show I can be diverse in my experimentation and can use other materials as well as using the computer.
Sketch of Enamel Pins
Here is a sketch I did of my Enamel Pins in my badge collection, it is an unfinished sketch more because I didn't like what I was drawing because it looked rushed and scruffy bit that was the intention of this sketch to capture the shapes of the badges.
Traced drawing of badges
I traced my badges after printing one of my photos of the badges in pencil, I did this to help me learn to draw the shapes and content in the badges and will help me with the developmental processes with this aesthetic.
Tracing Paper Piece on-top of Marble art
Out of my own will and curiosity after recently using marble art I decided to put my tracing drawing ontop of that to see what effects it would have on the piece as I wanted to try and incorporate the colours of the marble inks onto the drawings I traced, to try and be unique and experiment with other materials besides the computer.
Greyscale Photocopy experimental piece...
This piece here was honestly just an experiment, I wanted to try this out to see what happens when I photocopy my badges in black and white (Monochrome) as an experimental piece, not sure weather I liked what I created or not but was different aesthetic to what I usually
work with.
